Testing
RabbitMQ's flexibility is also its testing challenge. You have exchanges, queues, bindings, routing keys, headers, and TTLs — all of which can be misconfigured in ways that swallow messages silently. A unit test that mocks the AmqpTemplate tells you nothing about whether your topology is correct. This post covers
Testing
RabbitMQ, NATS, and Kafka have dramatically different testing developer experiences. NATS wins on speed and simplicity with its embedded server. RabbitMQ is straightforward with Testcontainers. Kafka requires the most setup but has the richest ecosystem for testing. This comparison helps you understand what you're signing up for before
Testing
Testing RabbitMQ code falls into two categories: unit tests that mock the AMQP connection and verify your business logic, and integration tests that spin up a real broker to confirm routing, acknowledgements, and dead letter queues work correctly. Testcontainers handles the real broker — no manual Docker setup required. Key Takeaways
Testing
Event-driven architectures are notoriously difficult to test. The fundamental challenge: your service publishes an event and returns immediately.
